History
The Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center in Pampa occupies the historic Harris Drug Store, where a teenage Woody Guthrie once worked and learned to play guitar after arriving in town from Oklahoma in 1929. During his years in Pampa, Guthrie wrote his first songs, married, and lived through the great dust storm of 1935 before leaving for California in 1937. Locals Thelma Bray and Glenna Lea Miller established the center in 1991, and it reopened to the public in 2003 with a benefit concert by folk singer Pete Seeger; it remains both a museum and a live music venue.
