History

White Mound Cemetery lies about two miles west of Tom Bean in eastern Grayson County and dates to 1856, when Mary Lackey was among its first burials. It served the community of White Mound, settled in 1849 by Henry Lackey and his family and named for two large white mounds of rock nearby. The village grew up around A. S. Lackey's grist mill, with churches, businesses, and Bosworth Academy, but most residents moved away after the Cotton Belt Railroad bypassed the site in 1888.
