History

McGirk Cemetery serves the ghost town of McGirk in western Hamilton County, a community established in the early 1870s along the Lampasas River. A post office opened in 1882 with John A. McGirk as postmaster, and a steam cotton gin operated after 1892, but the town declined through the 20th century until only a handful of residents remained. The cemetery holds roughly 110 graves of the area's residents.
