History

Pecan Wells Cemetery grew out of a pioneer community first known as Lookout that developed near the Lampasas River in the 1870s and 1880s. When a new school named Pecan Wells opened about 1921 after the Lookout and Merrill schools closed, the community and its cemetery took that name. Maintained by descendants of those buried here, the grounds hold more than 200 graves, including veterans from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. A Texas Historical Commission marker was erected in 1995.
