History
This residence stands in the Houston Heights, one of Texas's earliest planned streetcar suburbs, laid out in 1891 by Oscar Martin Carter's Omaha and South Texas Land Company on a low ridge northwest of downtown Houston. The Heights operated as an independent municipality from 1896 until Houston annexed it in 1918. The house at 844 Columbia Street was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the individually listed properties under the 'Historic Resources of Houston Heights' multiple property submission.
