History

The John Viven marker stands in Founders Memorial Cemetery in Houston's Fourth Ward, the city's oldest burial ground, established in 1836. In 1936 the San Jacinto Centennial Association restored the cemetery and placed Texas Centennial monuments over the graves of veterans of the fight for Texas independence and officers of the Republic, of which this marker is one.
