History

The McAllen Heritage Center was founded in 2006 and opened in June 2008 in downtown McAllen's "La Placita" building, a former post office constructed in 1935. Admission is free, and inside memorabilia and archival photographs trace McAllen's history, with a museum store, La Tiendita, selling books by local authors and regional souvenirs.
