History
The Aviation Unmanned Vehicle Museum at the Caddo Mills Municipal Airport is the first and only U.S. museum devoted to the history of military drones. It grew from the collection of Lt. Col. Harold F. 'Red' Smith, who after retiring from the Air Force ran a drone-manufacturing business and gathered aircraft in a 22,500-square-foot building; he began raising museum funds in 2014 but was killed in a car accident in 2017, after which his family completed the project and opened to the public on May 16, 2021. Exhibits range from 1930s gunnery-target drones to Vietnam-era Ryan Firebees and the MQ-1B Predator.
