History
Methodists near Greenville were served by circuit riders as early as 1848 and formally organized a congregation of thirteen charter members in 1850, meeting first in the Hunt County courthouse and the Masonic lodge. Known as the Methodist Episcopal Church, South until 1896, the fellowship then adopted the name Wesley and is recognized as Greenville's oldest organized congregation.
