History

Shady Grove Cemetery in Hunt County grew from a community that took its name from the large shade trees around an early schoolhouse, on land given by James S. and Elizabeth Alexander near the close of the Civil War. The neighborhood supported a Methodist church built in 1885 and a Baptist church organized in 1888, and the cemetery remains from that settlement.
