History

Caney Cemetery near Campbell in Hunt County dates to the early twentieth century, when Confederate veteran M.J. Fox and the Amis family donated land for the burial ground to Methodist Church trustees in 1904; its earliest marked grave, that of Fox's sister Elizabeth Neusum, dates to 1895. Named for nearby Caney Creek, the cemetery retains some original bois d'arc markers and received a Texas Historical Marker in 1998.
