History

The Quinlan West Memorial Cemetery on the west side of Quinlan began as the Williams family burial ground before the land passed to the local Masonic lodge, which platted and dedicated it as the Quinlan Masonic Cemetery in January 1918. Because custom held that a cemetery could not be called "Masonic" once non-members were buried there, it was renamed the Memorial Cemetery. In June 1937 the Trestle Board Masonic Lodge No. 534 deeded the two-acre tract to the Quinlan Memorial Cemetery Association, which maintains it today.
