History

Randado grew up around the Randado Ranch, established by rancher Hipolito Garcia on an 80,000-acre Mexican land grant he received in 1836. By the late 1870s the ranch anchored a community of about 300 people, complete with a chapel, a stone house, and (from 1882) a post office, in what is now west-central Jim Hogg County. The settlement's burial grounds served this remote ranching community, whose name derived from the ornate 'randa' lassos made on the Garcia ranch.
