History

This unnamed cemetery marks the ranching town of Cuevitas in southern Jim Hogg County, on land once part of Jose de Escandon's colonial grant. Brothers J. and F. Guerra founded the town with a ranch and general store; a post office opened in 1894, and the settlement included a church, a school, and this cemetery before dwindling to a handful of residents in the twentieth century.
