History

Hazel Dell Cemetery is the surviving remnant of the Hazel Dell school community, which lay about five and a half miles south of Biardstown in far southern Lamar County. The area was settled by at least 1896, when the Hazel Dell school reported twenty-three pupils, and a 1936 county map still showed a school, cemetery, store and scattered homes. After the local school district was absorbed into Delmar by 1957, the cemetery was soon all that remained of the community. It is also recorded under the name Wright Cemetery.
