History

Cottonwood Cemetery belongs to the small church community of Cottonwood in western Lamar County, about twelve miles west of Paris near Cottonwood Creek. A school was reported there by 1896, and 1930s maps show the community with a school, a church and a cluster of dwellings. The church and cemetery, along with a few scattered homes, still appeared on area maps into the 1980s, and the graveyard remains a reminder of this rural settlement.
