History

Post Oak Cemetery is associated with the Post Oak community in northern Lamar County, a settlement founded after the Civil War that was originally known as Gantt before taking the name Post Oak. A school was operating there by 1897, when it enrolled fifty-four students. The area is served by East and West Post Oak cemeteries, which preserve burials from the farming community's history.
