History

Mt. Tabor Cemetery is tied to the rural community of Mount Tabor in northwestern Lamar County, roughly eight miles northwest of Paris, which was first settled after the Civil War. By the mid-1930s the community had a church, this cemetery, and a scattering of houses, with a school and several stores nearby. The community declined after World War II until, by the early 1990s, only the church and cemetery remained.
