History

This is Salem Cemetery, next to Salem Baptist Church in the Salem community along FM 531 near Ezzell, south of Hallettsville. A sign at the church gives its founding date as July 14, 1857, and the two oldest graves both date to 1861, those of J. R. Martin and L. Nelson. The large, well-kept cemetery has grown to more than a thousand graves.
