History
The Live Oak County Jail in the ghost town of Oakville is a small two-story Italianate building of rough-hewn tawny sandstone hauled by ox-cart from a nearby quarry, built in 1886-1887 from plans supplied by the Diebold firm complete with strap-metal cells and remote-locking doors. It served as the county jail from 1887 to 1919 while Oakville was the county seat. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, the once-derelict building was restored beginning in 2007 and reopened as part of the Historic Oakville Jailhouse and Guesthouses.
