History

Ray Point Cemetery serves the small farming community of Ray Point in northeastern Live Oak County, which took its name from the Ray Ranch and the point where local roads met near the schoolhouse. The community formed in the early 1920s after cattleman James F. Ray's ranch was subdivided and sold during the South Texas cotton boom, drawing farm families—many of them German-speaking—who settled the brushy land along Sulphur Creek. The Live Oak County Historical Commission notes that the community's burial ground was never formally named in state records.
