History
Gussettville grew from an 1830s settlement of Irish Catholic families tied to the McMullen–McGloin Colony; first called 'Fox Nation' for the Fox family, it was renamed in the 1850s for merchant N. Gussett. The community's Old Gussettville (Guy James) burial ground traces to the 1851 death of Irish-born patriarch John Fox, recorded as the first interment on February 4, 1851, while a newer cemetery adjoined the county's first Catholic church, built in 1874 on land given by Thomas and Anne Shannon. By the 1930s little of Gussettville remained beyond the church and its cemeteries, yet descendants still maintain the grounds and gather for an annual reunion.
