History

This Jefferson home was built in 1859 and became known as the Capt. William E. Singleton House after Confederate veteran W. E. Singleton bought it in 1885. It is a rare local example of Greek Revival "Virginia Cross" architecture, with a columned portico and second-floor balcony. The Singleton family owned it for a century, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
