History

Taylor Cemetery is in the Grange Hall community about eight miles east of Jefferson in Marion County, on land that belonged to the Taylor family. Its earliest marked grave is that of infant Emmett Taylor, buried in May 1860, though family tradition holds the ground was in use before the Civil War. Ward Taylor Sr. donated the land; his son, Dr. Marion DeKalb Taylor (1818–1897), was a Confederate surgeon and Texas legislator.
