History

This cemetery serves Hilda, a German community in southern Mason County settled from about 1855 by overflow from the Fredericksburg and New Braunfels colonies. Originally called Beaver Creek and later renamed for Hilda Schulze, the community centered on a Methodist church and school first built of cypress logs and stone in 1865; today only the church and cemetery remain.
