History

Fly Gap Cemetery sits in northeastern Mason County near the old Fly Gap community, whose settlers had begun arriving by the early 1880s. Its oldest marked grave belongs to James Monroe Fleming (1826-1886), and many of those buried here were members of the Fleming family, among the area's first settlers. The burial ground adjoins the historic Fly Gap schoolhouse, later used as a community center by the Fly Gap Community Club organized in 1932.
