History

This is one of several small burial grounds tied to the Kothmann family of Mason County, German immigrants who arrived at Indianola in 1845 and became among the earliest settlers of the Art and Willow Creek area in the 1850s. The family patriarch Heinrich Conrad Kothmann (1798-1881) and his descendants ranched and farmed the surrounding land.
