History

Midland County's 1930 courthouse was designed by the Wichita Falls firm of Voelcker & Dixon, combining the massing and efficient plan of a modern office building with a simplified classicism, at a cost of about $319,000. In 1971-1974 Jesse Dixon Jr., son of one of the original architects, designed a new courthouse that was wrapped around and over his father's 1930 building, which survived intact behind the newer facade until it was finally demolished in 2015.
