History

Prospect Cemetery is the last surviving trace of Prospect, a vanished rural community in southeastern Milam County about four miles northwest of Milano, reportedly named for the bright prospects of its first settlers. The community had a one-teacher school in 1903 that was consolidated into the Milano district in 1931, and by the 1980s only the cemetery marked the townsite. A 2015 survey found the burials scattered across a large, overgrown area.
