History

Sandy Creek Cemetery adjoins the site of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, the first church of the rural Sandy Creek community about four miles west of Milano in southeastern Milam County. The congregation acquired land in the Jose Leal survey in 1869, and Sam Hamm gave three acres for the church and cemetery; a Church of Christ later stood at the south edge of the grounds, and the cemetery still hosts an annual homecoming.
