History

The Mendoza Mexican Cemetery near Minerva, about six miles north of Rockdale, was established in 1920 when Henry Mendoza paid ten dollars to J. S. Terry for one acre out of Terry's land along the Cameron-Rockdale road to serve as a burial ground for the county's Mexican residents. The tract was conveyed to the county judge for that purpose and was lost to memory for many years before being rediscovered.
