History
Harris Chapel Cemetery sits atop a pine-covered hill on Farm Road 1794 in northern Panola County, in a community named for Joe L. Harris, who came from Georgia in 1858 and built the area's first house nearby. The cemetery grew up around a Baptist church established in the 1870s, and its earliest grave holds the Yarbrough twins, buried in 1862. After the church closed, the Texas Conference deeded about three and three-quarter acres to the Harris Chapel Cemetery in 1930; a cemetery association still holds an annual homecoming each May.
