History

This burial ground sits on the south edge of Annona, a farming town in southeastern Red River County. The community cemetery there traces to the 1880s, with the oldest marked grave being that of an infant son of W. H. and I. K. Lawson who died in April 1884, and most of its interments are tied to the Rock of Ages Baptist Church, which is why it is sometimes called Rock of Ages Cemetery. The Annona Cemetery Society formalized the ground with a 1942 purchase from the J. D. Lawson survey, and by the early 2000s roughly 460 burials had been documented.
