History

This cemetery serves Johntown, a community four miles southeast of Bogata in southwestern Red River County that reportedly took its name from the many residents named John. The town gained a post office in 1900 and became a station on the Paris and Mount Pleasant Railway in 1913, and its cemetery remains a burial ground for area families.
