History

Turner Cemetery, once called the Old Beulah Church Yard, lies about fourteen miles southwest of Clarksville near Fulbright in southwestern Red River County. It is a mixed Black and white burial ground, historically divided so that African American graves lie to the east and white graves to the west. The oldest marked grave dates to 1839, and by 2004 the cemetery held some 453 documented burials, with family names including Whitaker, Hancock, Chesshir, and Long.
