History

Blanton Creek Cemetery was established in September 1896 in the northwestern quadrant of Red River County, tucked among old trees along a tributary just south of Blanton Creek on private land near Bagwell. It lies on the E. H. Tarrant headright survey and was set aside as a 120-foot-square plot under an 1871 partition deed. The cemetery was substantially reorganized in 2003 with new sections, and about 361 burials had been documented by 2004.
