History

New Haven Cemetery grew from a community church, school, and burial ground on the waters of Pecan Bayou in Red River County. In May 1859 George M. Sargeant deeded 2.75 acres for the church, school, and cemetery, and a later 1898 deed added five acres of the E. H. Tarrant survey to the New Haven Baptist Church. The oldest marked burial, George W. R. Rolston, dates to 1859, and by 2004 the cemetery held some 426 documented burials.
