History

The Toyah cemetery serves Toyah, the oldest townsite in Reeves County, whose name comes from an Indian word for flowing water. The community began as a trading post for the surrounding ranches and grew after the first train arrived and a post office opened in 1881; the burial ground lies northwest of town off the county roads west of Toyah.
