History

The 12th Armored Division Memorial Museum was founded in 2001 by veterans of the division to preserve the World War II archives, memorabilia, and oral histories of the unit nicknamed the 'Hellcat Division.' Its three floors of exhibits trace the division from its 1942 activation at Camp Campbell, Kentucky, through combat in Europe, where it helped capture tens of thousands of German soldiers and liberated Nazi camps, to deactivation in Germany in 1945. Displays include weapons, uniforms, vehicles, dioramas, and a Holocaust memorial, and a memorial walkway lists the names of division veterans.
