Marker Inscription

Designed in a Brutalist Modern style and finished in smooth reddish stone or concrete. The prominent, nearly windowless upper levels slant inwards and are supported by rectangular columns that flare at the bottom. Inset below are glass curtain walls as well as solid elements.

History

The current Taylor County Courthouse in Abilene, the county's fourth, was built in 1970-1972 to a Modern design by the Abilene architectural firm Tittle, Luther, Loving & Lee. The five-story pink-granite-and-concrete building has narrow pillars rising to an overhang above recessed glass walls. It stands across the street from the historic 1915 Classical Revival courthouse.
