History

Iberis Cemetery is the chief surviving trace of Iberis, a farming community south of Abilene that flourished in the early 1900s after the Abilene Southern Railway reached it in 1906. The town once had churches, a school, a gin, and a post office that closed in 1912, but drought, tornado damage, and school consolidation emptied it by the 1930s, leaving mainly the cemetery. It endures as a record of the families who built the vanished community.
