History
Greater St. Paul AME Church at 215 West Third Street in San Angelo grew from a congregation organized in May 1883 by the Reverend J. W. Walker, a former Buffalo Soldier stationed at nearby Fort Concho, making it the city's first Black church. The present one-story brick-veneer building on a raised cast-stone basement was constructed in 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
