History

Miss Hattie's Bordello Museum occupies the upper floor of an early-1900s building at 18.5 E. Concho Avenue in downtown San Angelo, a street that once catered to the cowboys and workers of the rough town across the river from Fort Concho. The museum's narrative holds that a brothel operated here from 1902 to 1952 until closed by the Texas Rangers, though that story was crafted by Evelyn Hill, who with Juania Higuera bought the building in 1977 and opened the museum about 1979. The rooms are furnished to evoke a frontier-era bordello.
