History

The Platt-Simpson Building in downtown Austin began about 1871, when Radcliff Platt built the original portion and operated a livery stable there until 1890, living in part of the structure. In 1901 J. S. Simpson (1854-1934) purchased and enlarged the building for his hardware store, which occupied the site into the 1930s. The building is notable for its large arched windows with stone trim and a decorative brick cornice. Its marker was erected in 1982.
