History
The Paggi Carriage Shop was a wagon and carriage dealership founded by Michael Paggi, an Italian-born entrepreneur who reached Austin by way of Mexico and San Antonio in the early 1870s. At the shop, near what is now Sixth Street, Paggi sold Studebaker wagons, buggies, and surreys and ran a blacksmith and repair operation, while also pursuing ventures in ice manufacturing and Barton Springs recreation. He sold the business in 1905, and the original building received a Texas Historical Commission marker in 1976.
