History

Abel Seymour Cunningham (1810-1860), born in Virginia, moved to Texas in 1835 and settled in Victoria County. He served as a private in the cavalry during the Texas Revolution in 1836 and later represented Victoria County in the House of the Ninth Congress of the republic, also taking part in the 1845 annexation convention.
