History
Darwin Massey Stapp (1815-1875), a Kentucky native, reached Texas in 1828 and received a title in DeWitt's colony in 1830. He joined the Texas army in 1835 and took part in the Siege of Bexar and the Grass Fight, later serving as Victoria County's first constable in 1837 and fighting at the Battle of Plum Creek in 1840. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Victoria.
