History

Captain James B. P. January was a physician who served as an assistant surgeon and surgeon for the Republic of Texas and was a veteran of the Texas Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War, during which he commanded a cavalry company attached to Waller's battalion. He is buried in Victoria's Evergreen Cemetery, where the state erected his marker in 1962.
