History

Clapp Cemetery, on the old Weldon-to-Trinity road near the Houston-Walker county line, was founded by Lewis Clapp with land reportedly deeded in 1853. By local tradition it was set aside as a burial place for people of mixed Native American and pioneer heritage who were excluded from other area cemeteries, and many of its graves remain unmarked.
