History

Boswell Cemetery lies at the site of the small farming community of Boswell, on Boswell Creek about thirteen miles southeast of Huntsville. Residents organized the Boswell Creek Baptist Church in 1881 and built a sanctuary on donated land in 1883; a post office operated from 1896 to 1921, and by 1940 the community consisted of the church, the cemetery, and scattered dwellings. The Baptist congregation's 1928 building still stood when it received a Texas Historical Commission marker in 1982.
